Update on the Future of this Blog

Desperate times call for desperate measures... and website rebuild.

By Kevin Gillispie

End the Silence

The previous six months of my personal life have been especially tumultuous. They’re proving to be the capstone of the two years since getting laid off. Watching the layoff bodycount increase within the tech industry has worn away my optimism of returning to the workaday world of web development. A drastic and uncharacteristic pivot must be made, if I’m to survive the accelerating avalanche of jobless computer mavens.

The corporate narrative is that AI is making many roles obsolete or redundant. The belief amongst the pundits is that corporations over-hired during and after the COVID-driven, work-from-home culture shift. Regardless, us tech pros are left shouting across the demilitarized zone established by the army of applicant tracking systems. Our voices seemingly never reach the ears of recruiters on the other side of digital void.

What Now?

While the economy restructures, I’ll be putting my energies into rebuilding this site. The minimalism isn’t what it once was aesthetically. More importantly, the dependencies needed to operation this Next.js stack is being relentlessly henpecked by GitHub’s Dependabot.

As that commences, there will be intermittent postings; but neither I nor this blog will have given up the ghost—at least not in frustrated apathy. Aside from the writing, there’s new music on the way as well. Until next time, mind the tumbling cavalcade of shellshocked coders turned prompt jockeys.
